Dealing with Tragedy
America is in mourning

I hope that you as are reading this you are safe and sound with your loved ones. But everyone today and the next few days will experience different types of feelings and emotions due to today's events. Please don't try to cover up these feelings. They are natural.

Many people, those on TV and those around you may be very sad, They may be grieving the loss of a friend or family member. When you are sad crying is very normal. Do not try to hold it in. Tell someone how you feel. Many people may also be in a state of shock. Some may not even believe what has happened. Others might be very angry. Some people may even shout, yell, or throw things. You might feel very scared or confused about everything that has happened. Please share these feelings with a friend or family member.

During this time I want to urge you to do something. Start a journal. Write down everything you saw and heard about. Then write about how it made you feel. Writing about your feelings is a great way to help you understand them better.

Another thing you can do is draw a picture. Draw the things you witnessed. You could also draw an abstract picture about your feelings.

I'd like to end with a Psalm from the Bible that our President George Bush quoted this evening

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd
I shall not want
He makes me lie down in green pastures
He restores my soul
Even if I should walk through the valley
and the shadow of death
I shall fear no evil for you are with me
Thy rod and thy staff comfort me
You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies
Surely goodness and love shall follow me all the days
of my life and I shall live in the house of the Lord forever.
