Have you been camping or out in the woods recently? Well if you have, be on the look out for poison Ivy. If you come in contact with it or poison oak or sumac it can cause an extremely itchy rash. A rash from poison ivy looks like red, raised, bumpy or blistered skin. It can be streaky or patchy. Any skin that comes in contact with the oils from the plant can get the rash. Over time the rash may look like it is spreading.
Each time you are exposed to one of these pesky plants makes the chance even greater that you will have a reaction to it. It can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for the rash to develop. If you get it it will begin on the part of your skin where the concentration of oil is the greatest. It will then develop on the rest of the exposed skin.
If you know that you have come into contact with poison ivy, oak or sumac, it may be possible to remove the oils from your skin if you wash the area with soap and water within thirty minutes of the time you were exposed. Also be sure to wash all your clothing because the oils can stay on your clothes indefinitely.
