Brain Dominance

Did you know that most people use one side of the brain more than the other? In most people the brain was designed to do this, That one side of the brain even grows much bigger than the other side. In about 90% of people it is the left side of the brain that is dominant and bigger. Others are Right brained and that side is the bigger half. Yet other people have a mixed dominance and their brain grows larger on both sides.

Do you want to find out your brain dominance? Find a friend and do this test to see which side of your brain is bigger!

Materials Needed

• Empty paper towel roll tube
• Two 3X5 cards, one with a 1/8 inch dot  in the center and the other with a 1/8th inch hole cut into it.
• A box that has an unknown substance in it, Can be pretzels, marbles, etc. Anything that shakes a bit.
•  a plastic cup
• a penny
• a ball

Eye:

• Which eye is used to look through the tube at some clouds, (or stars) in the sky.
• Set the two 3X5 cards down on top of each other in front of your friend. the card with the hole should   be on top of the card with the dot. Tell your friend to hold the card with the hole in it and keep the card with the dot on the table. Have him keep the dot in view through the hole as he pulls the card with the hole all the way up to his eye. Record which eye he brings the card up to.

Ear:

• Whisper a friendly message into your friends ear. Approach him at the center of his body, Which ear did he turn to listen with.
• Shake the box, try to identify what is in it by listening with one ear.

Hand

• What hand does your friend use to write with?
• Ask your friend to pick up the cup. What hand did they use.

Foot

• What foot does your friend use to step on a penny.
• What foot does your friend use to kick  a ball.

    If the answers to all your questions are Right sided , then your friend is Left brained, along with 90% of the population. If all of the answers were Left sided, then your friend is Right brained. And if you have some right and some left answers, (even if it is just one) then your friend has a mixed dominance.

    A person with mixed dominance may  have trouble learning things sometimes, this is because their brains have to work a bit differently from others. To interpret information in a brain with a mixed dominance it must travel back and forth between the hemispheres.  But it doesn't always cause problems, Einstien and Leonardo Da Vinci both probably had a mixed dominance
