The Skin

The skin is the largest organ in your body. It covers and protects all of your other organs. Your skin is not very thick. It is about the same thickness as a piece of cardboard. Even though it is thin, there are many things that go on inside of your skin. Hair grows from pores inside of it. Nerves and blood vessels run back and forth all throughout your skin sending messages back and forth to and from your brain.

Sweat is made inside of your skin. It is produced when your body becomes too hot.

The color of your skin is made from melanin. The darker your skin is the more melanin you have. When you have less melanin you may burn faster in the sun, However the sun can burn anyone so it is always important to wear sunscreen to keep your skin healthy.
